After sometime Luella met James Paine and ran off with him in defiance of her father.
James Paine (her second husband) was abusive and responsible for her death.
Her father tried to get her to leave and took her child (Katie Johnson) hoping she would then come home.
James had such a strong hold on her that not even the lose of her child could induce her to leave.
It is a very tragic story as the abuse ultimately lead to her death.
I recently found legal notice in a newspaper where she filed for divorce from James Paine.
But before the divorce was finalized James stopped over and found that she an ex boyfriend over to visit he though a lamp at her and hit her in the head.
The oil soaked her clothes and she caught fire.
Instead of putting her out, the men ran leaving her to burn.
Her husband was arrested, but then released, before she pasted away.
Unable to get justice for his daughter Geo.
Grim erected the pictured monument declaring his son-in-law to be a murderer.
This lead to the only known case of liable by tombstone ever recorded.
