According to an old unnamed weathered newspaper clipping from the Hibbard family album, 10-year-old Ezra Young was rolling a hoop along side the railing which extends from the railroad track to the edge of the dock at the boat landing.
In attempting to swing around the other side of the fence, the boy lost his balance and fell off the dock at the boat landing.
Ezra Young drowned before assistance arrived. His body was in the water about 20 minutes before it was recovered. Dr. William Bemus was called. The physician worked faithfully for one hour, but he was unable to resuscitate Ezra.
