Chilton – (Special)—Calumet County today recorded its fifth and sixth combat fatalities of the Korean War.
Pfc. Michael Cooley, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett M. Cooley, of New Holstein, who was killed 15 Dec. 1952 on his first day in the front lines.
Cooley enlisted in the Marine Corps on his 18th birthday last June, took basic training at San Diego, Cal., and received combat instruction at Camp Pendleton.
After a 10-day leave at home last October, he was ordered overseas with a replacement crew 19 Nov. 1952, landing at Inchon, Korea, on 6 Dec. 1952.
He was killed in action on his first day in combat 10 days later.
